living joyfully
Joy...living, sharing, being, and loving joyfully within our world, our communities our homes, and living well there.
Year’s ago the BeautyEdge team stumbled upon an East Coast lifestyle store named PIRCH. The store no longer exists, however, the theme of lifestyle and how the merchandise related to living well was communicated through the products on the shelf.
Lingering thorugh a lifestyle store offers an inspirational think-tank for product development, retail, branding, marketing and living joyfully.
What are the expressions of joy that we seek?
Stimulating the senses … touching … feeling … dreaming … connecting … experiencing … hoping … engaging …. off-lining.
In escaping our lack of joy and breaking free from anxieties, we seek to relax in our own space, to entertain in our homes, our communities, the hub of our lives, with neighbors, family, and friends.
We delight in story telling about our lives, creating memories and events within our own “at home supper club” or “meetup-connection,” and being comforted in the joy of it all with an element of surprise.
What is Living Joyfully?
· loving
· connecting - sharing intimately
· balancing self-comfort with community building
· self-expressing/creating
· experiencing life visually, texturally, emotionally
Joy as a way of living
Joy is more than a passing mood. It is a daily practice, a lifestyle choice that shapes how we move through our days, care for ourselves, and show up for others. People are increasingly treating joy as a measure of well-being, asking not only “Am I productive?” but “Do I feel alive, present, and connected?”
Where joy shows up in everyday life
· In the body: movement, rest, nourishment, and self-care rituals that make us feel good, not just look good
· In the mind: curiosity, play, creativity, and permission to unplug
· In relationships: time spent with people who leave us feeling lighter and more ourselves
· In our surroundings: places, textures, scents, and moments that lift our mood
· In small surprises: the unplanned detail that turns an ordinary day into a memorable one
Why joy matters for well-being
Joy eases the weight of stress and anxiety, strengthens our sense of belonging, and gives us energy to keep creating and connecting. Living joyfully doesn’t mean ignoring life’s difficulties. It means making room for what restores us, again and again.
What this means for product development, retail, and branding
· Design for the feeling, not just the function. The products that last are the ones that leave people feeling better than before.
· Create experiences worth stepping away from the screen for. Tactile, sensory, in-person moments build trust and desire in a way digital rarely can.
· Support rituals. Brands become part of daily life when they help people build routines that nourish them.
· Honor both self and community. People want products and spaces that serve personal comfort and also bring others together.
· Leave room for delight. A touch of surprise turns a purchase into a story people want to share.
The takeaway
Living joyfully is a current, growing lifestyle movement, and it is reshaping what people expect from the products they use and the brands they trust. For those of us who build, curate, and tell brand stories, the opportunity is to become a source of that joy: to help people feel, connect, express, and live well.
Something to ponder: If joy were the measure of success, what would we create differently?
